Mudlarks Finds

Mudlarks, a 2014 PC mystery/paranormal adventure game by Cloak and Dagger Games, features mudlarks and mudlarking prominently in the storyline. The term mudlark is used in the 2012 video game Dishonored by several NPCs, which reflects the games Victorian-inspired tableaux & setting. Meriel Jeater, curator in the Department of Archaeological Collections and Archive at the Museum of London, explains that ‘mudlarking as a profession started in the late 18th and then into the 19th century, and was the name given to people literally scavenging for things on the riverbank and selling them.’. The Mudlarks were a family group from Bedford, Bedfordshire, England, originally comprising Jeff Mudd (born 1935), Fred Mudd (1937 – 2007), and Mary Mudd (born 1939). According to press releases at the time, they all had jobs at the Vauxhall motor plant in Luton, and spent their spare time singing together.
